The Story Behind Davey Boy's Hot Sauce

After a long career in land use planning—and a lot of quiet time on our hands thanks to the pandemic—my wife and I were looking for a special place to settle for the long term. We found our home in Prince Edward County.

With a big backyard and a water view, I needed an outlet for my creative itch. I’d never had this kind of space in the city, and when I looked around and down, the answer was right underneath my feet. I dug into creating my first garden. My wife, a former chef, guided me with classics like garlic, zucchini, and tomatoes—but I wanted something more. Something with a little more heat.

My love for hot sauce started years earlier, sparked by a trip to Peppers of Key West in the early 2000s. I was hooked on the pursuit of the perfect balance of flavour and fire. So my garden grew to include peppers of all kinds.

After my first season, I had a fantastic harvest and a new obsession. I spent the next year experimenting, learning everything I could about the science and process of making hot sauce—from production to food safety to packaging.

All my hot sauces start as experiments. My OG creation, a Thai and habanero blend, was a hit. I called it Davey Boy’s Hot Sauce, and friends and family couldn’t get enough. The feedback was incredible: “Why aren’t you selling this? When can we buy this?” That was two years ago. That’s when I knew I had something special.

What began as a backyard experiment has turned into a full-fledged small-batch hot sauce business, right here in Prince Edward County. We’re always working on new recipes, and we prioritize using local ingredients whenever we can.

We hope you try them all as they’re released—and enjoy them as much as we do!
